Welcome to the Sodeman History Blog

Welcome to the Sodeman History Blog.  Our family immigrated in 1872 via Hamburg and New York to Toledo, Ohio. I don't know why they went to Toledo. I don't know how they got from New York to Toledo. While Toledo in the 1800s was a vibrate industrial city my family were basic laborer in the fields around Falkenhagan without the industrail skills expected in the city. Growing cities like Toledo however needed any skill to feed its growth.

Alt Falkenhagan is a small farm community outside of Waren in Mecklenburg, Germany. Family research traces the family back to 1655 in Levin which is North of Waren. Sodemann has its origin in Sweden and this is supported in the family DNA. Sodemann are found throughout Northern Germany particularly along the Baltic and Northern Sea.

The family tree, always growing, now includes 8929 people. Of those, 2386 share direct DNA blood lines including paternal and maternal lines. As time progresses I hope to add short stories of my research into the family. I hope this blog may provide links to new information.
